How to read Express Entry draws

Express Entry is the federal system IRCC uses to manage applications for the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades programs. Everyone in the pool is ranked by their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, out of 1,200 points. In each draw, or round of invitations, IRCC invites the highest-ranked eligible candidates to apply for permanent residence (an ITA).

The cut-off is the lowest score invited

A draw's CRS cut-off is the score of the lowest-ranked candidate who was invited. Eligible candidates at or above it received an invitation; at exactly the cut-off, the tie-breaking rule decides.

Only compare draws you qualify for

General draws are open to the whole pool. Program draws invite one program only, such as Canadian Experience Class (cut-offs 507–533 over the last 12 months). Category-based draws invite only candidates who meet that category's language or work-experience requirements, which is why French-language draws (382–420) can have much lower cut-offs.

PNP draws: subtract 600

A provincial nomination adds 600 points, so Provincial Nominee Program cut-offs (697–805 over the last 12 months) sit far above every other draw. Subtract 600 to see the score those candidates had before their nomination.

The biggest levers are usually a higher language test result, French proficiency, more Canadian work experience, or a provincial nomination. Check how each change affects your CRS score.

Each dot is one draw. Provincial Nominee Program draws are left out because the 600-point nomination puts them off the scale (25 PNP draws, cut-offs 697–805). The latest Canadian Experience Class cut-off was 519 on Oct 15, 2026.

What does the tie-breaking rule mean?
