Worked examples

How we get the 2027 TFSA limit. CRA indexes by the change in average CPI over the 12 months to September. Average CPI from October 2024 to September 2025 was 163.3. For October 2025 to August 2026, with September assumed equal to August, it is 167.5: 2.6% higher. The TFSA's $5,000 base, indexed every year since 2010, was $7,184.92 for 2026. × 1.026 = $7,371.72, which rounds to $7,500. The same method reproduces every official limit from 2010 to 2026.

What the CPP cut is worth. An employee earning $74,600 pays CPP on everything above the $3,500 exemption. At 5.75% instead of 5.95%, that is $142.20 less a year, and the employer saves the same. A self-employed person at the same income saves $284.40. The employee also pays $38.05 more EI ($1,161.12 instead of $1,123.07), so the net saving is $104.15. Our take-home pay calculator still uses 2026 rates.

How this table is maintained

  • Official numbers come only from CRA, ESDC, Statistics Canada, Service Canada or the statute itself.
  • Our own projections (TFSA, brackets, basic personal amount, OAS threshold) apply CRA's indexation method to published Statistics Canada CPI; September CPI arrives in the third week of October.
  • Pending means the number is legislated or scheduled but not published; we show no guess for YMPE, YAMPE or CGEB.
  • Each row is replaced by the official figure when CRA or ESDC publishes it, usually by mid-November.
  • Our calculators keep using 2026 numbers until the 2027 figures are final.

Frequently asked questions

What is the TFSA limit for 2027?

We project $7,500, up from $7,000. The limit is $5,000 indexed to inflation every year since 2010 and rounded to the nearest $500. Statistics Canada's CPI through August 2026 points to 2.6% indexation, which lifts the unrounded amount from $7,185 to $7,372. Anything above $7,250 rounds to $7,500, and that only needs 0.9% inflation, so the result is very unlikely to change. CRA confirms it in November. Total room for someone who has been eligible since 2009 would reach $116,500.

Is the CPP contribution rate going down in 2027?

Yes, if the change is brought into force as planned. Bill C-30, which received royal assent on June 18, 2026, cuts the base CPP rate from 4.95% to 4.75% from January 1, 2027. With the first additional contribution of 1%, employees would pay 5.75% instead of 5.95%, employers the same, and self-employed people 11.5% instead of 11.9%. Changes to CPP rates need the agreement of the provinces, so the measure takes effect by order in council; CRA will confirm the rate with the 2027 YMPE in early November. Benefits do not change.

How much will EI premiums be in 2027?

1.64% of insurable earnings up to $70,800, so at most $1,161.12 for an employee, $38.05 more than in 2026. Employers pay 1.4 times that, up to $1,625.57. In Quebec, where the province runs parental benefits, the rate is 1.29% and the maximum is $913.32. These are final: the Canada Employment Insurance Commission confirmed them on September 14, 2026.

What is the RRSP deduction limit for 2027?

18% of your 2026 earned income, up to $35,390, plus any unused room carried forward, minus your pension adjustment. You need about $196,611 of earned income in 2026 to reach the maximum. Your exact 2027 limit appears on the notice of assessment for your 2026 return.

When will the 2027 federal tax brackets be announced?

CRA usually publishes the indexation factor and the new brackets in mid-November. Using the same CPI data, we project 2.6%: the 14% bracket would end at $60,045 instead of $58,523, and the basic personal amount would rise to $16,880. Provinces that index use their own factors, and several announce them at the same time.

What happened to the GST/HST credit?

It was renamed the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) in July 2026, and the amounts went up by about a quarter. For July 2026 to June 2027 the base amount is $445 per adult and $234 per child, up to $679 for a single person and $890 for a couple before the income reduction. Eligibility works the same way: file your tax return and CRA works it out. The amounts for July 2027 onward will be indexed.

Will the OAS clawback threshold change in 2027?

Yes. The recovery tax applies to net income above $95,323 for 2026, and we project about $97,801 for 2027 income. Above the threshold, OAS is reduced by 15% of the excess. The tax year 2027 threshold determines the recovery tax withheld from July 2028 to June 2029.
