Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CRS score?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. Points are awarded for factors like age, education, language skills, and work experience. The highest-ranked candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence.

What is a good CRS score for Express Entry?

A good CRS score depends on recent draw cut-offs. Over the last 12 months, Canadian Experience Class draws had cut-offs of 507โ€“533, French-language draws 382โ€“435, and small targeted rounds (such as physicians) went even lower. Provincial Nominee Program draws show cut-offs above 600 because a nomination adds 600 points.

How often does IRCC hold Express Entry draws?

IRCC typically holds Express Entry draws every two weeks, though the frequency can vary. Each draw specifies a minimum CRS score and the number of invitations issued. Draw results are published on the IRCC website.

How can I improve my CRS score?

The most effective ways to increase your CRS score are: improving your language test scores (IELTS/CELPIP for English, TEF/TCF for French โ€” CLB 9 in all four abilities also unlocks the higher skill-transferability points), gaining more skilled Canadian work experience, obtaining a provincial nomination (+600 points), adding NCLC 7+ French (+25 or +50), or completing a Canadian post-secondary credential (+15 or +30).

Does a job offer still give CRS points?

No. Since March 25, 2025, IRCC no longer awards CRS points for job offers โ€” previously 50 points for a skilled job offer and 200 points for a senior management (NOC Major Group 00) offer. The change applied to everyone already in the pool. A valid job offer can still matter for eligibility (for example the Federal Skilled Trades Program or some provincial streams), so keep it in your profile.

Does having a spouse lower my CRS score?

It can. If your spouse or common-law partner is coming with you and is not a Canadian citizen or PR, IRCC uses the lower 'with spouse' maximums for your own factors (460 instead of 500 core points) and adds up to 40 points for your spouse's education, language and Canadian work. A strong spouse profile can make up most of the difference.

Are the CRS points changing in 2026?

IRCC ran a 2026 consultation on Express Entry and CRS reforms, including possibly removing French bonus points and adding points for high-wage Canadian work or job offers. As of October 14, 2026 these are proposals only โ€” the published CRS criteria still use the grid in this calculator. We will update the calculator if IRCC changes the official grid.

What is the maximum CRS score possible?

The maximum possible CRS score is 1,200 points. However, in practice scores above 600 are very rare without a provincial nomination. A provincial nomination alone adds 600 points, which is why PNP candidates almost always receive an ITA.
